Geological Models for Gold deposits always include a "conduit" for Gold to rise to the surface. Gold originates at various depths in the crust of the earth. There are exceptions where gold is found at the surface. Those cases are usually known to have originated at depth and the Gold was transported or exposed through erosion.

The magnetic data comes from an airborne magnetometer that moves along with the survey system as it acquires data. The data is stored with GPS location so the location is known.

As with other magnetometers used in mag surveys, a second mag is used to measure diurnal variation in the magnetic field. The fixed station reference mag is subtracted from the airborne mag to remove diurnal variation.

Diurnal variation is the natural - ever changing intensity of the Earths magnetic field. If you set a magnetometer at a fixed location, the reading changes as the diurnal variation changes!

How accurate do you think the fault potting is on gov maps? +/- a quarter mile?

The accuracy varies depending on observed faults versus inferred (buried) faults. The INF Fault zone is 4000 feet across!
