Thanks for the update, information and break-down Chuck. All that you wrote has a very familiar ring to it, not that I have done any prospecting on the scale you outlined, but it reminded me of other ventures, some not even related to prospecting or mining at all.
The scenario is an all too familiar one and I have seen it lots of times. The difficulties and expense are always magnified when you don't live there locally. This is not just because of the difficulties and expense of getting to Alaska from home, it also includes being unfamiliar with Alaska, especially remote Alaska. This is something we cannot convey to others when they ask about logistics, they have nothing to compare it with.
If you live there and have for any length of time, you become familiar with means, methods, people in position to help with all the unfamiliar "how to's". Being based in Alaska and having been there long enough to develop a working knowledge of how you can get things done that non-residents never even suspect.
Much of what I did in Remote and not so remote Alaska was done alone and on the "cheap". But in my many years of living there I developed ways and means of doing things that would not be available to non-residents. In other words familiarity became common place and served me well. Familiarity was the only word I could come up with to describe what I meant; but that familiarity encompassed many different subjects, it was not just being familiar with a limited number of ventures and plans, it developed into a way of life that could be transitioned to any venture I decided to embark on.

That video of him down in the hole was interesting, but the next one where they are washing the stuff is crazy. They are running it through the plant just as it came out of the hole. I would bet, if I were a betting man, that they are losing a lot of gold in that uncrushed material. It seems like anyone doing hard rock would know enough to crush and liberate gold from the matrix.
His over-board use of the metal detector and theatrics for the camera leave a lot to be desired too. He also wastes a lot of time digging out one nugget at a time, when he has to load it all up in the barrel anyway. I may seem to be too critical, but have worked hardrock and at least know the basics and a bit more. His home made wash plant leaves a lot to be desired too. All that larger material building up on the punch plate that is just thrown off probably holds a lot of gold that he never gets to see.

I don't know which video you are referring to.

No Chuck, it was not Dan Hurd, he is bad enough. I went to the link you provided. When it was done it went to the next link on his feed, which was him putting the stuff through his home made wash plant. It was worse than a rookie mistake, it was a simple case of not knowing what he was doing.
