Re: Remote Prospecting?
Advancing the project;
Remote prospecting has been shown (from the discussion above) to have EXTRA-ORDINARY challenges...
If we can fly a man to the MOON, we can fly a man to NOME! Then drive up the road to the Kougarok!
I recall the line in the movie, Apollo Thirteen... "NO Bucks, NO Buck Rodgers"...
So, lets play "Millennial Monopoly"... We start with NO MONEY, a million dollar line of credit and a GOLD prospect...
From our previous discussion, it would be difficult to "go-it-alone" on the Kougarok River.
==========================
We need Human Resources...
The MINIMUM number of able bodied people is THREE. In any work environment, with emphasis on REMOTE work environment, it is imperative to have three people. IF there is an injury requiring medical treatment, ONE person can treat the patient and a SECOND person can go get help.
==========================
So, we go online, do some personal networking and round up TWO helpers...
The Labor proposition is: We pay round-trip airfare from Baton Rouge, LA to Nome, Alaska plus salaries of Six thousand dollars each for three months work. Plus room and board plus insurance and workman's comp.
We make reservations for three seats (coach) to Nome on June 1, 2019 with return flight on August 31, 2019.
We have two replacements on telephone standby if needed.

Re: Remote Prospecting?
You stroll over to Alaska freight;
There's three 2019 Can-Am Atv's that you bought at AMDS.
https://www.akmining.com/new-models/201 ... -26697627b
3 x $10,500 = $31,500. (it's Millennial Monopoly)
The girl at the counter hands you a receipt for $2234. for the freight charge.

Re: Remote Prospecting?
It takes a team of three;
Here's why...
ONE person cannot GO-IT-ALONE. You need a helper to lift, move, go to town and back while you watch camp or vice-versa. One person cannot watch camp, go get provisions and dredge or prospect at the same time.
TWO people set both persons up for the danger of incapacitation of one or both. To go get help, one person has to leave the other person alone to potential demise from the cause of the incapacity. Otherwise, both must wait for help to come. There are too many possibilities of trip and fall, roll-overs, neck or spinal injuries.
THREE people provides safety and security for everyone. If there's an incapacitating injury, TWO people can load the injured person for transport. If the injured person cannot be moved or transported, then ONE person can attend the injured person while the other person goes to get help.
Remote prospecting does not provide the luxury of calling 911 for help. You don't have an address!

Protection;
Remote prospecting requires protection...
I bought a fifty dollar can of bear spray when I was in Nome. Give it away or give it to TSA when you make your EXIT.

Re: Remote Prospecting?
Don't drink the water;
Surrounded by water... but... Don't drink the water...
Prospectors know that creeks and rivers have beavers. Beavers propagate Giardia, a micro-oganism that causes serious gastro-intestinal problems...
Buy a case or two of bottled water... or buy a Sawyer bottle. The Sawyer bottle contains a special micron filter. The micron filter filters out the Giardia and/or other micro-organisms. They aren't cheap... but much better than the other option.

Re: Remote Prospecting?
So far all this has done for me is make me feel good that I put my money in the bank instead of doing some serious prospecting. It is very interesting though.
It reminds me of the time where we stopped to help a guy change a flat tire between Manley Hot Springs and Fairbanks. He was headed to Fairbanks to the hospital after shooting a nail gun through his hand. He was having a tough time changing a tire one handed. Makes the 2-3 person habit look very reasonable.

Re: Remote Prospecting?
Got Gas?
The trip out to the Kougarok is 80-85 miles one-way...
For reference; I burn 5 gallons on a 45 mile trip from Ophir to Takotna and return. The round trip takes 4 hours.
Doing the math for fuel needed gives 10 gallons out and 10 gallons back (minimum). With 5 gallons, in the tank, each 4-wheeler will need at least three 5 gallon jugs of fuel. I would recommend four so there's fuel for the camp Gen.
Suction dredge;
They run on Gas too...
