Well - there seems to not be any "Cleanup" thread that I can find - and since
Leonard started this thread on an entirely different topic I think I'll just start a "Cleanup Thread" for P AK.

Here it is: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=231

I can sure relate to the getting up and down.... I can't do the stream and river work anymore either... Legs just won't do it.
So now I get to the beach when i can and the conditions are right.

Reminds me of a question not long back about , what was the best bit of mining equipment you ever used...... That would be a younger mans strong back....lol

Johnedoe,

That's very true! Actually there's a world of younger up-coming prospectors that would appreciate the opportunity to learn from an experienced miner like yourself. There are many different local community youth groups that are looking for projects. :)

Johnedoe,

Another venue is offering a weekend "seminar" on Beach Mining for adults. This will bring many aspiring miners out of the woodwork. Your expertise on the subject is worthy of a fee. I have done week-end seminars. I charged a fee for the training. If the training is free - little value is attached. A program can be set up to give one day in class and a second day in the field, on the beach. I think the most beneficial thing experienced prospectors can do is pass on their experience.

On the side, I would either include a GOLD panning kit or sell kits separately on a retail basis so everyone has immediate access to the tools needed to get GOLD! :)

Johnedoe,

As a follow-up benefit to the prospector instructor;

Many of your adult student prospectors will become friends. You will have an association with a group of enthusiastic prospectors that will want to join you on a regular basis on prospecting outings. :)

Johnedoe,

Another benefit of being an experienced prospector is being a mentor to others. It is possible to offer the benefit of your experience to new prospectors in exchange for their services as a helper. This is a form of apprenticeship that used to be routine in our society and is not seen much any more. :)
