Cory,

Much of Alaska has been conveyed or is in the process of being conveyed to the State of Alaska.

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has jurisdiction over Mining and other resources on State land.

Here is a link to their fact sheets: http://dnr.alaska.gov/mlw/factsht/

You wiil see tabs with links to other informational pages.

Recorders Office Search;

Mining claims are filed at the DNR Recorder's Office. You can search the Recorder's Office Data Base here:

http://dnr.alaska.gov/ssd/recoff/searchRO.cfm

The DNR Recorder's website is supposed to be updated daily.

Alaska is divided into Districts. Legal descriptions of land are based on Township, Range and Section. There are a number of Meridians that the Townships and Ranges are based on (also called Baselines). The Fairbanks Meridian is centered near Fairbanks. Townships are numbered North and South of the Meridian. Ranges are numbered East and West of the Meridian. There are 36 (one square mile) sections in a Township. Sections are numbered 1 thru 36.

Identifying State of Alaska Mining Claims;

As you zoom in... You will see many BLUE squares begin to appear... :o

The BLUE squares are State of Alaska Mining Claims.

The common practice to claim mining claims according to Meridian, Township, Range and Section (MTRS).

Claims are usually 40 acre or 160 acre mining claims.

NOTE: "MINING CLAIM" DOES NOT EQUAL "GOLD"...

How to determine Ownership;

On the upper left of the screen is a "Tool Bar"...

One of the tool icons looks like a pencil... It is called "Point"...

Hover the mouse pointer over the point icon and "left click"...

As you move the mouse pointer, a ball will follow...

Place the ball over the point you wish to "Query"... Left Click the point of interest...

A ball/dot remains...

There's more.... :)
