Re: Remote Prospecting?
I can verify the validity of this survey information because I have had "feet on the ground" experience before the survey was even thought of. At the time I prospected the Koyukuk River and its pups, it was a known hot spot of small scale miners. When I was there, there seemed to be a dredge on every pup leading into the Koyukuk. One big factor was ease of access. One could put a boat in right off of the Dalton Highway, which was how I accessed the claim I had there.
My claim was just over one mile downstream from the Dalton and directly south of a larger mechanized operation across the river from me. I found gold that was not water washed, but in and along with, fractured rock; it extended even high up on the bank of this small pup. This was something that I had never seen before. The top of the bank of this pup was about ten to twelve feet higher than the small pup. I could scrape back the moss and dig right into the fractured rock, bring it down and pan out decent gold from just one pan full.
This was early on in my mining endeavors, I had virtually no experience and only owned a small 2 1/2" dredge; but dredge I did and with impressive results for such a small dredge.
