Best way to determine ownership??
What is the BEST way to determine ownership of Alaskan lands?
Alaska mapper showed a section open where a mineral survey showed promising results. Recorders office showed no entries. I just accidentally happened upon a LAS document showing a transfer of ownership which encumbered that section.
Glad I found it before putting another week’s worth of research into a doomed project. Would have been bad to try to develop private, albeit remote, land.

MTRS Search;

Tells if it's TA/d, history.

Re: Best way to determine ownership??
Been doing some reading on conveyance of Alaskan lands. It seems that sections 16 and 36 (and another one for UA) were reserved for education funding purposes. Does that mean that every one of these sections within the state were reserved? Or just the ones from the earlier approval of tentative approval of state ownership from the feds?

Re: Best way to determine ownership??
It seems like every time that I find something that looks very promising on an EM survey, it belongs to a native corporation! It looks like they are deliberately requesting ownership transfer for the highest probability mineral occurances.

Glen,
Without knowing what you have been reading, it's impossible to "fact check" it.
Yes, there is a selection process that includes/allows ANICLA top-filing.

Re: Best way to determine ownership??
I have been researching the only Level 7 anomaly in the Wiseman survey. Location F032N010W section 25. While checking ownership on Alaska Mapper and thru the Recorders office, I noted a buried notation listing native corporation as an interested party to this parcel but not claiming it outright. Does this mean that if a discovery is located that they have a prior “claim” to it?
There are already existing claims on that section, so it makes me wonder. Why prove the discovery for someone else to claim!

Re: Best way to determine ownership??
New to Alaska and new to research how to find open land and file a claim. Would anyone mind helping us new folks out on how to research and claim land. I honestly have done a little digging around but its a bit intimidating if you don't know where to start. Also how do you find out if a claim has been abandoned or fees not paid. Is there a monthly list somewhere that says hey these claims went unpaid and are now back up for grabs or is there no such creature,,,, Anyhow be interested in what ya might have to say. I appreciate the advice and help for us greenhorns..!!
