Going the distance;

Remote prospectors have a challenge to go where others have not gone. It means going deeper into the bush and looking deeper into the earth to find GOLD. It also requires prospectors to use new tools that set them apart from other prospectors. That's why metal detector manufacturers keep coming out with better detectors!

He who has the best detector wins; :o

Having the detector systems mentioned in recent posts moves the ball forward for anyone wishing to explore into the realm of hidden GOLD deposits at greater depth.

But... Wait, we have one more tool to put in our tool box!

An interesting phenomenon was observed by prospectors. The voltage in the ground like a current was turned OFF, the voltage would return to zero. Improved methods would reverse the potential applied to the electrodes. In areas where there was heavy disseminated mineralization, the voltage would be seen to be a steady level.
The phenomenon was called the effect.

So, prospectors had a NEW method for finding disseminated mineral deposits!

Don't go away! :)

Old Soldiers;

As a follow-up to another thread on this forum;

The phrase, "Old Soldiers never die, they just fade away..." was made by General McArthur in his final years.

Prospectors. no matter what part of the world they live, eventually must deal with their own mortality.

Through my many years of prospecting, I have come across countless old prospectors and listened to their stories. Wandering to the ends of countless old roads, I have found almost as many old ghost towns.

The prospectors are gone. :o

While developing a Silver Mine, here in Arizona, my weekly trip to the mine took me through a small, shady, oasis with huge Pecan trees, beautiful Peacocks, a few well fed cows and calves and a friendly old timer named Walt. I would always slow down and stop to visit with Walt and share the latest updates on my "project". Walt commented during one of my visits almost in a kind way that "I had better get going!" :)

On a "mission";

Remote Prospectors are by nature, independent thinkers. They get up in the morning and go out to the end of the road and keep going to the most remote places in the world. It isn't easy work and it is work that others have a hard time understanding. It is as if prospectors are on a mission. :o

Every mission has a beginning and an end (our hats are off);

Members of this forum have asked, "Where have all of our members gone?" The unfortunate reality is that sometimes the "end of the mission" comes suddenly and unexpectedly. They didn't get a chance to say goodbye. In the case for others, the end may be on a dusty, way to Hellen gone trail in the Gemfields of the Outback.

For those of us that remain, we are inexplicably on a mission.

You may replace your hats.

Even my wife has a hard time understanding this concept; she asks, "why do you do this to yourself". Chuck outlined the answer clearly in his last two posts.

Prospector nutrition;

Depending on where a prospector is working, the definition of "nutrition" varies. North African prospectors may load saddle bags on a camel with dates and nuts. Western prospectors have a diet that includes dried or canned meats and fruits. The theme always remains the same with perishable foods like dairy products, fresh fruits and veggies.

Bacon and beans;

Many early prospectors lived on bacon and beans. Depending on the location, there may be supplemental berries, fish and wild game. Gemstone prospectors and miners in Australia have the same issues every other remote prospector has in terms of managing the priority of food items along with needed tools and supplies that make it possible to do their work.

We understand the importance of fresh fruit and veggies in a balanced diet. The point is valid and well intentioned. However, for a rational, remote prospector, the nutritional value provided, with foods having a short shelf life, perishables are the first to get dropped off of "The List".

The Gem fields are a case in point. A study of the nutritional needs of the miners is well intentioned, however the cost versus the nutritional benefit for the majority of miners and prospectors is out of the question.

Miners have traditionally compensated using canned food, fruits and veggies for most of the past century. Social programs like Meals on Wheels are a big help to those that are no longer able to get out.

Where does that leave us?

Remote prospectors should include either an exit strategy or a shelter in place strategy as old age or disability becomes an issue. Does "Meals on Wheels" venture out this far? :)

Australian prospectors in Alaska;

That's right!

An Australian prospector is exploring for GOLD in Alaska. :o

By the way, they are using a Geophysical methods to find GOLD and Copper!

Stick around, there's more! :)

A copper discovery;

Here's a link to a major copper discovery.

This includes measurements made and conclusions based on interpretation! :o

This represents an excellent opportunity to look at an example of prospecting that has resulted in a major discovery and development of an open pit copper mine with millions of dollars worth of production!

The mine is presently operated by an Australian miner.

Don't go away, there's more! :)

Aussie prospectors in Alaska;

As a follow-up, I thought it would be interesting to share more about Aussie prospectors that are reaching half way around the world with exploration projects in Alaska.

We dream of going to Australia and they dream of going to ALASKA. :o

The take-away is that there's still GOLD in them thar hills!

Don't go away! :)

Learning from the Big Dogs;

Where do we go for help in learning about prospecting?

Much can be learned from resources like Gold Prospecting Forums. :o

Resources for learning are very limited. One of the resources I have found is watching how Junior and Major exploration companies go about the process of prospecting.

We can benefit from the experience of others;

Searching online for exploration companies, subscribing to their news letters and reading about their successes and failures provides literally a World of experience.

Millions of dollars are expended by companies in the process of exploring for GOLD and other metals. It's an expensive process. Usually, the results are published. When prospecting leads to a discovery, the payoff can be very rewarding. The reward for other prospectors is in the form of learning "what" and "how" the process of prospecting ultimately led to a discovery.

Stick around, there's more! :)

A "Mission of Discovery";

As was recently given discussion above, in simple terms, remote prospectors are most often single mindedly and single handedly looking further and deeper. I would call it a "Mission of Discovery".

The Nova Minerals Projects provide an excellent model for prospectors.

We can learn by the example shown in the video. Note also the reference to IP with follow-up core drilling.

Three dimensional uses the same principles covered earlier in this thread. The earlier discussion centered around developing a "slice" of the earth. The process of running parallel slices and developing a three dimensional view of mineralization.

Stick around, there's more! :)
