All great information Chuck. I constantly have people asking about going to Alaska to prospect or mine. I most always try too discourage it simply because people that do not live in Alaska, or have never been there will inevitably run into the " you can't get there from here" factor. They have no idea of the vastness and inaccessibility. You mentioned willows, they can be formidable. But if you are an Alaskan, not impenetrable. You just have to have the knowledge, expertise and right tools. Some tools are unique, expensive and require special skills.

Rivers? Yes, and they were my favorite form of access, but even then they can be formidable and dangerous. How many non-resident prospectors would even think about beaver dams in their list of obstacles?
